I have a license from another state, which doesn't expire until 2050 something, so I have kept it the whole time I have lived in my current state (CA) for the past three years (for the sake of not having to renew my license every five years.) However, I registered my car in CA over two years ago. I was never asked to show my driver license and I don't believe I was ever looked up in the computer, so my question is: If I have CA plates but a different state license, does that mean I am or am not registered in the computer system in CA? The reason I am wanting to know is because I am wondering if I will be able to bypass taking a written test. I'm confused on the matter because, although I have never taken a picture for a CA license, I do have CA plates on my car and am curious as to whether or not my name is in the DMV system. Cadillac . How to Glue a Button to a Rear View MirrorGluing the rear view mirror button can make the difference between keeping the mirror up during your commute and having the mirror fall during the drive. The rear view mirror button is an adhesive that connects the windshield to the actual mirror. The front of the button has a sticky adhesive while the back of the button needs some glue. Gluing your rear view mirror can make your trip a safe one. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Safety razor Sandpaper Glass cleaner Paper towel Mirror adhesive glue Step by Step : 1 Use a safety razor to scrap off the residue from when the mirror fell. The thin sheet of old glue will come off easily. 2 Soften the back of the button by rubbing it against sandpaper. Use 100 or 150 grit sandpaper, because it can polish the back and not damage the button. 3 Apply two to three sprays of glass cleaner onto the windshield to begin cleaning the mirror. Three sprays will be enough to clean the whole mirror. 4 Wipe the mirror off with a dry wash cloth or paper towel. Let the mirror air dry, once you have dried the mirror. This will ensure that the mirror is completely dry. Applying glue to a wet mirror will cause the mirror to fall. 5 Apply two to three small drops of mirror adhesive glue onto the back of the button. Place the button in the middle of the windshield. The curved part of the button should face up. 6 Hold the button on the surface for 10 minutes or until it has completely stuck. Attach the entire mirror to complete the setup of the rear view mirror.
Cadillac . How to Remove the Outside Mirrors on a 1983 CamaroThe side mirrors on the 1983 Chevy Camaro bolt to the sides of the doors. Rather than attaching the mirror behind the inner door panel, Chevy mounted the mirrors right in front of the side window. They opted for an access panel to make it easier to replace the side mirrors. This makes the process of removing the mirror straightforward. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Screwdriver (optional) Socket set Step by Step : 1 Pry the cover off the inner door. The cover is inside the door where the mirror bolts to the outside of the door. To remove the cover, pry it off with a screwdriver if you cannot pull it off with your fingers. 2 Unplug the wiring harness behind the cover. Depending on the trim level of your Camaro, the mirror might not have a wiring harness. If you must manually adjust the mirror, skip this step. 3 Remove the three nuts that secure the mirror to the Camaro's door, using a long-well socket and ratchet. 4 Pull the mirror out of the door. *Staler drive Crankshaft flywheel Figure 5-4: Anatomy of a starter. If you keep the key in the "Start" position after the engine starts running, you'll hear a strange noise. That noise is the clutch in the starter drive that allows the engine to spin faster than the starter. Even though this one-way clutch prevents starter damage once the engine starts, it's not a good idea to hold the key in the "Start" position once the engine is under its own power. Try not to keep the starter engaged this way for longer than ten seconds at a time. If the vehicle doesn't start, allow the starter to cool down for one to two minutes before attempting to start it again. Failure to do so can overheat the starter and damage it. And don't turn the key to the "Start"position when the engine is running. If you do, you can damage the gear on the starter and the ring gear on the flywheel. Part II: What Makes It Go? The Charging System After you start your engine, it (usually) runs at a nice steady rumble. This is possible because as soon as the pistons in the cylinders start to go up and down, your car begins to run on its usual diet of fuel and air (read all about it in Chapter 6). When you let go of the key and your ignition switch moves from "Start" to "On," the electric current stops flowing to the starter but continues to flow through the charging system and the rest of the electrical system. (See Figure 5-5.) Ignition switch Alternator 265

The alternator The running engine drives a belt that enables your alternator (or generator) to produce electric current for the rest of the trip. Here's how it does this: Your alternator (see Figures 5-5 and 5-6) replaces the electricity that was taken from the battery when you started the car. Then, every time your battery sends out some of its "juice," the alternator replaces it. The basic difference between an alternator and a generator is that alternators appear on newer cars and produce alternating current (AC), which is internally converted to the direct current needed to drive various gadgets. Generators are usually found on cars built before 1964. They simply generate direct current (DC) and pass it on. But to keep things simple, I'm just going to call the gadget an alternator, because no matter which you have on your vehicle, it does the same thing in the long run. Cadillac . Many newer cars have a voltmeter, which indicates system voltage. With the engine running and all accessories off, the system voltage should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If not, something may be wrong with the charging system. The alternator also supplies your electrical system with current to run the car radio, headlights, and so on. I get to those at the end of this chapter. The Vohaqe regulator The voltage regulator (see Figure 5-7) is a device that controls the alternator. On older cars, it's mounted somewhere under the hood. On newer cars, it may be mounted inside the alternator or inside the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). The PCM is a computer that controls the operation of the fuel, ignition, and emission-control systems on newer cars. If the voltage regulator fails, the alternator is powerless.
